Champaign, IL - Dean of student accused of sexual abuse - May 20, 2002 Three more boys have accused Brady Smith, 45, of "violating their civil rights" in a lawsuit against the convicted dean. Smith was convicted in November and sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to soliciting a 14-year-old Champaign boy to have sex with him. His teaching certificate was revoked last month. An attorney filing the lawsuits said the boys were students at Franklin and that the abuse occurred while they were students there and, "for some, continued when they advanced to high school. " Smith had been with the district since 1994. The recent allegations are similar to lawsuits filed in July 2001 and March 2002. The latest involves twins and another student, all of whom are now 16 years old.
