Houston, TX Out of Bounds May 21, 2002
Focusing on sex between the secondary school students and coaches, the Houston Chronicle in this May 21, 2002 report clearly has an agenda.
A three-month study by the Chronicle found more than 60 instances in the last four years in which Texas high school and middle school coaches lost their jobs as a result of allegations of sexual misconduct involving students or other minors.
Attributing the problem to good ol' boy" network, the Houston Chronicle infers that the coverup is to spare men exposure when they misbehave. That makes it an ol' boy network, however, the network is not exclusively male. It's an education establishment.

Norfolk, VA Judge adds years to pedophile's sentence --- May 17,2002
Phillip Daniel Brothers, 40, was sentenced to 30 years in prison, 20 of which are to be added to a state sentence of 30 years. Brothers was convicted of videotaping nude boys from The Williams School between 1995 and 1998 where he had worked as the after-school program director for kindergarten through eighth grade. Brothers has a history of child molestation that school officials failed to find during a pre-employment background check 10 years ago. "The school now fingerprints every employee, and the prints are checked against state and national criminal databases, as well as a child protective services database that has non-criminal information about abuse cases."

Broward Co. FL seeks to fire 'Temptation' teacher for online gay web porn  May 21, 2002
Physical education teacher Tony Vanchieri, 26, appeared on the TV show Temptation Island 2 as a "tempter" who tried to lure women away from their boyfriends. He also appears online in gay pornography. The school board would like to dismiss him for violating standards of conduct. The special investigator for the district reports that the teacher has argued that his online activities have no bearing on his performance in the classroom. There is an ongoing "controversy" on whether teachers should be accountable for their off duty activities.
A separate investigation is still ongoing into whether a Ramblewood Middle School teacher arrested in January during a raid of a gay club should be disciplined for allegedly having oral sex in the bar.

In 1999, two teachers were also arrested on sex-related charges while in a swingers' club. One resigned and the other cut a deal in which he gave up his tenure and was reassigned to teach adult-education classes while on two years' probation.
May 10th Sun-Sentinel reports that an elementary school principal in the same district resigned after being accused of shutting off cameras to steal equipment, falsifying records to account for missing equipment. Police are still investigating the loss of $3000 missing from ticket sales for Mother's and Father's Day breakfasts and money raised by selling $5 picture keychains.

25    Champaign, IL - Dean of student accused of sexual abuse -   May 20, 2002
Three more boys have accused Brady Smith, 45, of "violating their civil rights" in a lawsuit against the convicted dean. Smith was convicted in November and sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to soliciting a 14-year-old Champaign boy to have sex with him. His teaching certificate was revoked last month. An attorney filing the lawsuits said the boys were students at Franklin and that the abuse occurred while they were students there and, "for some, continued when they advanced to high school. " Smith had been with the district since 1994. The recent allegations are similar to lawsuits filed in July 2001 and March 2002. The latest involves twins and another student, all of whom are now 16 years old.

San Bernardino, CA - Teaching credential suspended May 21, 2002
State officials suspended the teaching credential for Tanya Hadden, 33. She was the missing teacher who fled to Las Vegas with a student. The emergency credential was suspended "under a provision of the California Education Code that covers immoral and unprofessional conduct, said Janet Vining, senior staff counsel with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The state agency certifies teachers to work in the classroom." "The suspension means that Hadden will not be able to teach at a public school while she awaits trial. Her name also will be placed on an all-points bulletin that is distributed monthly to all California school districts and professional teaching organizations." This disturbing note:
State law prohibits anyone with a conviction for a sexually related crime from holding a teaching credential. Less than five teaching credentials are [sic] suspends in an average month, Vining said.
Four a month???? Isn't that a lot? And are all of them related for sex-related offenses?
