"Ex-Woonsocket teacher guilty of molestation" pleaded no contest yesterday to charges that he repeatedly molested a student, beginning when the student was 12. Richard R. Lalime Jr., 32, gym teacher and girls' basketball coach is scheduled for sentencing in June. He was only a former teacher after he resigned after being convicted in Massachusetts. In Fall River, substitute teacher John F. Gibney, brother of former school Supt. James M. Gibney was charged with 30 abuse counts against children at Talbot School, according to a Providence Journal article. (May 1, 2002) "The indictments against Gibney, 56, involve nine victims. They include 17 counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, three counts of simple assault, two counts of exhibiting a child in a state of nudity or sexual conduct, two counts of lewd, wanton, or lascivious behavior, and seven counts of accosting, a larger category that covers several kinds of offensive acts." Gibney's brother, James, served as Fall River's schools superintendent from 1994 to 2000.

A Mesa, AZ teacher was, apparently, watched a porno film on school property and forgot to take the porno tape out before showing "Great Expectations" to a classroom full of 9th graders. "Police seeking porn charge against teacher" Arizona Republic. (May 11, 2002) Bill Ctibor, will be charged with a felony of furnishing harmful items to minors. He has been a teacher in the Mesa district since 1977.

Missing Teen, Teacher Found in Las Vegas I (May 2, 2002) In a story that got a lot of coverage, Tonya Hadden (38) and Richard Pena (age 15) were reported missing and eventually found in Las Vegas. She was a science teacher.

Ex: "For years, people have shied away from talking about adult-child sex, but now some experts are rethinking their views on the topic." and ""With adults and children having sex, we see about 70 cases a month," said Jeff Carlson of Metro Police. "That's quite a bit, and it's been fairly steady in that number for the past several years.The teacher later cited a failure of "impulse control" in leaving San Bernardino with the boy on a three-day escapade in a San Diego Union Tribune story. The Corona man is accused of lewd conduct on a 14 year-old student.

"Schoolteacher pleads innocent in sex case" .(May 11, 2002) - A Riverside elementary-school teacher remained in Los Angeles County Jail on Friday after pleading innocent to charges that he molested a boy in West Covina in the 1990s. West Covina police issued an arrest warrant for Paul Edward Lowe, 42, of Corona after a 21-year-old man said Lowe molested him when he was 9 and continued to molest him until he was 15. He had been Teacher of the Year in 1992. Lowe lived on the same West Covina street as the man who alleges he was molested, police said. Lopez declined to specify the relationship between the two.
