Fall River, RI - - Brother of School Superintendent charged -- May 1
In Fall River, substitute teacher John F. Gibney, brother of former school Supt. James M. Gibney was charged with 30 abuse counts against children at Talbot School, according to a Providence Journal article. (May 1, 2002) "The indictments against Gibney, 56, involve nine victims. They include 17 counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, three counts of simple assault, two counts of exhibiting a child in a state of nudity or sexual conduct, two counts of lewd, wanton, or lascivious behavior, and seven counts of accosting, a larger category that covers several kinds of offensive acts." Gibney's brother, James, served as Fall River's schools superintendent from 1994 to 2000.
