San Bernardino, CA - Teaching credential suspended May 21, 2002
State officials suspended the teaching credential for Tanya Hadden, 33. She was the missing teacher who fled to Las Vegas with a student. The emergency credential was suspended "under a provision of the California Education Code that covers immoral and unprofessional conduct, said Janet Vining, senior staff counsel with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The state agency certifies teachers to work in the classroom." "The suspension means that Hadden will not be able to teach at a public school while she awaits trial. Her name also will be placed on an all-points bulletin that is distributed monthly to all California school districts and professional teaching organizations." This disturbing note:
State law prohibits anyone with a conviction for a sexually related crime from holding a teaching credential. Less than five teaching credentials are [sic] suspends in an average month, Vining said.
Four a month???? Isn't that a lot? And are all of them related for sex-related offenses?
